A Sea Worthy Adventure in Tulsa, OK.

Posted on April 10, 2019May 31, 2019 by Cilla Green

This sponsored post is of our own, honest opinion.

The Oklahoma Aquarium is more than OK…It’s an amazing underwater adventure for all ages! If you get a chance to visit Tulsa, OK, then you have to stop and visit this aquarium. Ocean life, river life, and native water species can all be found under one roof. Want to pet a baby shark, a sting ray or a sea urchin? How about feeding sting rays or turtles? There is a lot to see and hands on things to do as well.

  • Front Entrance
  • Bull Shark Statue at the entrance

The atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy as everyone was excited about the abundant sea life within this aquarium. So many beautiful fish to see. So many opportunities to explore and be apart of.

Starfish

So many different types of starfish to view throughout the exhibits (not all seen here), but it was even more fun to be able to touch one.

  • Petting a Star Fish
  • Red Spined Star
They have millions of little suckers on their legs. This guy was investigating my finger.

Feeding Time

You can feed the turtles, sting rays and watch the shark eat during their feeding time.

Petting Tank

Teddy was so excited about being able to pet a sting ray along with a baby shark and a horseshoe crab. With so many cool sea animals to touch and see, what kid wouldn’t want to do this.

  • Sting Rays
  • Baby Shark
  • Horseshoe Crab

Teddy was obsessed with the sting rays. He loved watching how graceful they were “flying” through the water.

Sting Rays gracefully “flying” through the water.

Go Fish!

There are so many different species of beautiful colorful fish to see, there is no way I could post them all here. I suggest taking your time and soak in the beauty and tranquility of all these sea creatures.

Lion Fish
Spotted Moray Eel
The male Sea Horse carries the babies.
Upside-down Jellies, they rest upside-down to allow for
photosynthesis of the algae living within them.
  • Albino Red Eared Turtle
  • Leopard Frogs
  • Oklahoma Blue Crawfish
  • Stripped Burrfish
  • African Mudskippers can breathe air too.
This Stonefish has great camouflage, but this guy is not to be messed with.
He has needle-like spines with the most deadly venom of all fish.
Can you find his eyes and mouth in all this camouflage?
  • Alligator Gar
  • Stripped Bass

Sharks!

The shark tunnel is amazing to walk through. You are surrounded by thousands of gallons of water and sharks! Bull Sharks and Nurse Sharks inhabit the very large tank. If you visit on Mondays or Thursdays, you can witness the shark feeding during certain times. While we were waiting for the feeding time, we noticed the sharks were reacting as if they knew it was time to eat. Sharks have poor eye sight so they use their sense of smell to locate their food. It was a learning experience to watch how they located and searched for their food. When one of the sharks missed the food, the crowd watching reacted with an “Aww!”, but when a shark chomped down on his bite sized raw fish, the crowd erupted in cheer. The energy was exciting and fun to be apart of.

Feeding Time!

Sea Turtle

This beautiful Sea Turtle was so graceful to watch. I think he was showing off for the people watching too. My husband got splashed!

Sean and the Sea Turtle
  • Gizmo liked watching the fish too.
  • Jumbo Shrimp petting tank

Octopus coming soon!!

Coming Fall of 2019 is a brand new Octopus exhibit. We were able to view one of the newest octopus for their exhibit, but because it was still trying to acclimate to its new environment, it was curled up in a very small shelter.

Thank you Oklahoma Aquarium!
